Description:
Second in my collection - picked up from an antique shop in Orangeville, ON. I think every collector needs a Smith-Corona. They're snappy typers and a good place to start for a newbie - they can usually be had relatively inexpensively, although I'm sure I paid more for this one than I should have. The serial number is off the charts for the 6SS series, so any help with clarifying its date of manufacture would be appreciated!

My father brought with him a Hermes Rocket when he emigrated from the UK to Canada in 1967 and I remember playing with it as a kid. This memory was reignited while I was in Montreal for work this past February and came across a stationery shop that had five typewriters in the window. When I got home, I went on the hunt for my first typewriter - caught the bug and haven't stopped!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Super Sterling on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Super Sterling By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
