Description:
This belonged to a friend's mother who passed away. I named her Clarissa in honor of the original owner. She needs cleaning but seems functional. This is probably the heaviest typewriter I have owned! The serial number can be found under the right side of the carriage. Unique things about this model: last desktop manual made by Smith Corona; has a Space-o-matic feature (press the Space-o-matic bar down to get continuous spaces); has a half-space button. I'm not sure how to get an exact year from the serial number, so if anyone knows please enlighten me!

I am a librarian, artist, writer, and co-author of the book Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries (The History Press, 2023). The tactile nature of typing on a manual machine works some kind of detox magic in this digital age. Each vintage typewriter has a soul and a story. Currently my collection is centered around midcentury models.
