Description:
A Smith-Corona Electra 120 typewriter.
This typewriter is equipped with standard Elite 66 typeface at 12 pitch and 6 lines per inch.
This i effectively the Galaxie typewriter design--and even the body style--modified with an electric trip, something that SCM learned how to do in the 1950s, with their 5TE series. This unit showed signs that it had been decently well used but not abused. When found, the period would not actually contact the platen. Part of that is because things such as the period, comma, underscore, and apostrophe have been modified by SCM to prevent them from hitting the platen at full force, thus punching or cutting holes in the paper. Now, that is a little undone by the platen hardening over time, but with a backing sheet, it should still perform like new. The case was found with a significant dent in one corner but, fortunately, these style cases take reforming quite well without inflicting additional damage and now it is almost back to the way it should be.

Collector of several things, including typewriters, slide rules, and mechanical calculators.
Started collecting typewriters in 2023 with a Royal HHE like the one I did my first book report on when I was in school and using my dad's old typewriter.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Electra 120 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Electra 120 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
