Description:
I think this is a 1971 machine based on advertisements I could find, and from comparing the serial number across other SCM models from the late '60s - early '70s. Gotta love the brown, mocha, & simu-wood color scheme. The keys and other white plastic bits have faded to an off-white cream color which complements the mocha plastic quite nicely. Named Ron Burgundy, mostly because it smells of rich mahogany (and it's kind of a big deal).
For the drive belts I used o-rings from McMaster-Carr, part no. 9557K238. These are EPDM rubber, "dash no." 239, durometer 70A (medium hardness), and the measurements are below.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Coronet Electric 12 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Coronet Electric 12 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
