Nice, I've been hoping to find one of these, and today I did! :D
This Silver-Seiko built Royal Mercury is similar to other Japanese portables of the time, built well, solid design and construction, all-metal with a plastic snap-on cover. The touch on these is a little heavier than the Brother JP-1, but pleasant in it's own way. Sound is metallic and clanky, like the metal-shelled JP-1's. I suspect application of soundproofing felt would do much to alleviate that.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal (Silver-Seiko) Mercury on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal (Silver-Seiko) Serial Number page and the Royal (Silver-Seiko) Mercury By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
