Description:
One of those typewriters that were made expressly for that infernal correction ribbon, the one that flakes white all over everything. (They flake even when new; you’d think someone would have foreseen the problem and never produced the thing.) Its three-position ribbon selector is marked silver (stencil), black, and white. It has a Correction Key, which raises the ribbon high (even before you type a key) and backspaces once.
Free at a rummage sale; missing the ribbon cover; has a robust molded plastic case; has problems (probably fixable, if I decide it’s worth it) with the Power Return--the carriage often jams, which locks up everything, and can only be freed by running the carriage back and forth manually, the line space works, and the return does not, ever. The serial number is a foil sticker, so it doesn’t have to be filed off when stolen.
Decent character set but you see how some of them hit light--I don’t know why.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal Century 2000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal Century 2000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
