197X Olivetti Studio 45 Serial # 1829740 197X Olivetti Studio 45 typewriter, Serial # 1829740 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 197X Olivetti Studio 45 typewriter. 2014-12-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 197X Olivetti Studio 45 Serial # 1829740 This Studio 45 was made in Barcelona, and according to the serial number it should be a 1972 specimen, but I´m not positive about it since Spanish serial numbers vary from Italian-made Olivettis. It´s a 70´s model, that´s for sure.

This typewriter is far from being my favourite. Not very attractive, and only average taking into account the quality you expect from Olivetti. In my opinion the Studio 46 was better tuned. The nail in the coffin is the missing logo at the front. How dull this machine looks without it...

This particular typewriter came with its case, wrapped with duct tape. Removing it is a royal pain because of the case texture, which won´t let the glue go. The previous owner did that because the case hinges were broken, and instead of replacing them just taped the two pieces of the case together leaving me the job of cleaning the mess and repairing the damage. In addition, it needs a good visit to the doctor. Too slow and lazy, but a lubricant shot will be enough. I hope.

At least the quick reference guide was still there...

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
