197X Olivetti Lettera DL Serial # 7092343 197X Olivetti Lettera DL typewriter, Serial # 7092343 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 197X Olivetti Lettera DL typewriter. 2019-10-18 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 197X Olivetti Lettera DL Serial # 7092343 Being one of the most common typewriters in Spain, this one has arrived quite late to my collection.

There's no specal reason for that, though. There are always plenty of these floating around, it's not dificult to find it at a decent price and it's a good enough typewriter. Not a world-conquering one, but being a cousin of the excellent Lettera 32 makes it at least worth a try. It's heavier than te DORA, looks better but types more or less at the same level. This model is quite durable, because this specimen demonstrates how a Lettera DL can type after having been dropped at least twice (that's what I can make out from the damage present). Now the question is why did I get a damaged machine if there are hordes of them around? Answer: it came along with other 2 typewriters, 6 euros each.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
