197X Mitoral (Messa) 3000 Serial # 4402147 197X Mitoral (Messa) 3000 typewriter, Serial # 4402147 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 197X Mitoral (Messa) 3000 typewriter. 2020-01-11 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 197X Mitoral (Messa) 3000 Serial # 4402147 Two for the price of one and free shipping on the second unit, that's the bargain I got for two Mitorals.

While it wasn't strictly necessary to have two almost identical machines, the occasion just presented itself. The seller made a mistake and sent me a Mitoral 2000 S but I had purchased this Mitoral 3000, so after a really short negotiation (I didn't say a thing, I promise!) I agreed to get both typewriters for a good price. Thing is I thought the 3000 was the better one, but nope. Maybe the additional functions and the colorful body are good enough features to win the contest but only if the typewriter is brand new. And since these machines are far from new condition matters. This 3000 is quite beaten up, many minor things here and there which add up to a working typewriter but nowhere near its ideal / expectable level of performance. In any case, even in perfect condition this typewriter wouldn't win any championship, but right now it's relegated to second line duties such as light and ocassionan typing.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
