The typewriter works fine, just needing a thorough dusting. But what's important is its carrying case, a collaboration between Gucci and Olivetti that is much-coveted by collectors here in Japan. Unfortunately, the hard plastic on this particular Gucci case has broken into fragments. Now as to the reason for putting 1979 as the date of this machine, I noticed that there is a warranty card that dates to Showa 54, September 12. Showa 54 is 1979.

I'm an archaeologist who writes heritage books and collects Japanese ceramics as well as quite a number of typewriters that I've acquired through purchase or as gifts over the last 10 years in the Philippines as well as in the US and Japan.
