OTOH, it doesn't work---every key repeats after I release the key, two repetitions or 80+. I'm sure someone here will tell where the works have to be ungummed.... No type sample 'til then. The type ball is unmarked(!)

Odd, no part number on the cartridge. Must be a third-party replacement. That installation diagram is pretty useful, huh?

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Selectric II on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Selectric II By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
