Description:
This is a Model 721 though it only says Model 7 X on the label. 11 inch platen with a 8-1/2 inch writing line; fabric ribbon; 12 pitch only; smaller case than other Selectric Is (compare the space outboard of the extreme key locations).
Yard sale find; it had been bought for a college student. Not used for a long time and very oily inside and everything sticks. Very good condition except for that warped clear plastic scale behind the right platen knob.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Selectric I on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Selectric I By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
