Description:
This is my Correcting Selectric II, in the classic black colorway with grey keyboard. Per the age tables right here in the Database, the serial number dates its manufacture to the fall of '78 or spring of '79. Very cool!
I have service records for the years 2004-2019 (earliest to latest known service dates), during which the machine was in the care of Adams Remco, Incā see the photos for service placard details. Adams Remco is still in business in the East (USA), though they don't seem to service typewriters anymore. Nonetheless, I believe that the years this machine spent in their care were most important to keeping it in the great condition it's in now.
Although this Selectric runs smoothly and types very well, it isn't in full working condition. It was an eBay purchase that was then shipped to me from halfway across the country, and as such now needs at least 2 pulley systems reconnected (one of which will get the currently-stuck carrier moving), the correcting mechanism repaired, the left-hand platen knob replaced, and various other mechanical and cosmetic issues fixed. Like many of these beloved machines, it also has a bad hub and could use a good general cleaning and reconditioning.
No matter; what an elegant machine with which to tinker! I do plan to bring it into working condition to use as my daily typer and so will update this gallery accordingly.

Typing whilst looking at a screen is overrated! Gen Z typewriter enthusiast.
Current collection includes 1 semi-functional and 1 non-functioning Correcting Selectric II that are both undergoing repair.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Correcting Selectric II on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Correcting Selectric II By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
