1978 Brother Charger 11 Serial # G83493948 1978 Brother Charger 11 typewriter, Serial # G83493948 Roger C's 1978 Brother Charger 11 typewriter. 2025-09-30 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Roger C: 1978 Brother Charger 11 Serial # G83493948 A great implementation of the mighty Brother JP-1 chassis, the Brother Charger 11 has everything you need, nothing you don't. Excellent choice for anyone's first typewriter. This machine was somewhat grungy inside and out, but cleaned up nicely. I followed Munk's instructions on how to fill it with foam to improve the sound, which is a good project to undertake. Some of the slugs are slightly out-of-alignment -- the lowercase 'a' droops down, for example -- but I find that just adds eccentric charm.

Dual-ribbon selector, but no correction on this model -- although I opted for a monochromatic ribbon anyway.

The rubber bits -- the platen, the grommets, the feet -- are feeling their age, but have some life in them yet.

In retrospect, using black foam might have been a better idea, but it's a very minor regret.

Thin self-adhesive foam applied to the inside of the ribbon cover, where no one can ever see it.

Some leftover foam makes a little cover for the carriage return lever, which can otherwise mar the body in transit.
