1978 Addo 612 Serial # 80052103 1978 Addo 612 typewriter, Serial # 80052103 Kewin Sanfridsson's 1978 Addo 612 typewriter. 2024-09-20 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kewin Sanfridsson: 1978 Addo 612 Serial # 80052103 Another Silver Seiko typewriter rebranded as Addo in my collection. I will compare this typewriter with my other rebranded Silver Seiko, the Addo 6o2 because there are actually are a few differences which meets the eye.
First off all what caught my eye on this typewriter was the keycap legions, they are different to the keycaps on the 602 those ones are less bulky and more elegant. The Addo logo is there but it is missing the model name next to it nor anywhere else on the machine. So I have been looking around the internet for a bit and I am convinced it is a Addo 612 from the looks of it. As with many Silver Seiko machines I have seen there are some inconsistency with the naming on both the Silver Reed machines and rebrands like this one. It's nice to have a paper rest though, to holds the paper in somewhat of a upward position which lets you easier inspect what you have written so far and also not dragging the paper on the table compared to the 602 which does not have a paper rest. Both typewriters have a carriage lock but the 612 just have a lever on the right side to physically stops the carriage from moving forwards while the 602 have the carriage lock integrated into the line spacing lever which also disengage the platen cog. I really find this neat to combine all three features together into one little lever on a portable. The sticker for the ribbon colour lever is squares in solid colours on the 612 while on the 602 the sticker have two arrows for the corresponding colour and a black line in-between instead. The metallic chassi is a bit more square or cube-ish? I haven't looked inside to compare the two machines but I'm sure it is not much difference between them. Anyways, you can feel it is a Silver Seiko portable but this is by no means a bad little machine it just feels a bit little static though it feels quite instead snappy!

Cheers!

Hi my name is Kewin and I'm a 24 years old from Sweden. I have a few hobbies like drawing and playing guitar but I do also like myself some project here and there which is where my interest in typewriters fits in. I have always collected things through my life but I did not expect typewriters to be my next big passion in collecting. I started collecting typewriters in the beginning of 2022 and so far I have 80* of them (3 of which is currently disassembled) . I find it really enjoyable to pickup a typewriter at a thrift store/second hand and starting to clean it up and get it to a working condition to the best of my ability and knowledge. (Excuse all the dog hairs in my pictures, I do actually try to remove the hair before taking the pictures. xD) Cheers!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Addo 612 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Addo Serial Number page and the Addo 612 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
