Funny story: I didn't enter, and the story was written as an excuse to try out my *mother's* new electric typewriter. I'd never used an electric before, only the standard manuals in Miss Zablocki's typing class. I was a solid "D" student, with an unbreakable habit of backspacing and overstriking mistakes...which stood me in good stead, come the computer revolution, but drove poor Miss Z crazy.
