Description:
All right, I've (quickly) revised this listing, having just located a 1974 advertisement for this machine. My guess is that my particular machine was made in 1976.
Here's what I wrote previously:
I'm guessing that this machine was manufactured in 1986. It was made in Portugal by Messa (a company that also produced typewriters for Sears).
I'm still searching the history of this machine, but my assumption is that the XL1010 was contracted to Messa as Brother was focusing on electric typewriters in the mid-1980s. But that is only a guess. I will note that Messa machines for Sears were sold in the 1970s, so perhaps the XL1010 was made then too. But why? Brother had its own, extensive line of manual typewriters in the 1970s.
The XL1010 is made of hard plastic with a metal cover over the type basket.
