Description:
Paid $20 for a partially frozen gummed up Galaxie Twelve. Feature packed. Has a skipping problem haven't been able to resolve. Everything else works. It's a bummer. In the future I would only be interested in 6 series machines with metal ribbon drive parts from the 1960s.
Just noticed it looks like the last character is an H, not 1. This matches other serial numbers here.
04/20/2025: I am using this machine for parts although it still works with an occasional skip. Its plastic carriage release handles went to my 1966 Classic 12 along with its rear carriage return bracket screw.
Acquired 07/13/2023: $20

I started with 2 Monroe calculating machines then in January 2023 I used my Christmas money to buy a 1936 L.C. Smith and Corona, Corona Standard portable. Since then have acquired more typewriters. Also have 2 Engineers Transits (surveying instruments), a K+E Foresters staff compass, and 4 slide rules. Typewriters as a hobby has been more affordable than antique surveying instruments anre and they are easier to obtain.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Galaxie Twelve on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Galaxie Twelve By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
