1975 Olympia SKM Serial # 36-0086151 1975 Olympia SKM typewriter, Serial # 36-0086151 Kewin Sanfridsson's 1975 Olympia SKM typewriter. 2024-05-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kewin Sanfridsson: 1975 Olympia SKM Serial # 36-0086151 Here we got yet another German typewriter, this one a Olympia SKM. Not very common from what I gathered, not here in Sweden anyways. Fully plastic shell. Both a Olympia badge on the front and back and their logo, awesome! It looks quite futuristic especially with it's silver cover, almost like a spaceship!
It got five different resistance/weight options for typing (changed via a lever located underneath the left ribbon spool under the ribbon hood). To your left side a easy tabulator adder/subtractor, there are also a full tabulator reset on the right side of the carriage. To your right a colour selector between black, red and stencil paper. We also got a must have unstuck key for when the keys get stuck. You also got a platen disengage feature to let it spin freely as long as you are pulling the left platen knob outwards. It sure is a bit clunky but that's how I like my typewriters!
You probably figured out already that I really love this typewriter. It just feels so nice to type on and the square design. Easy to use and understand, also quite easy to get into and clean/repair. And there are some cool swirls on the metal of the paper rest and hammer guide which I really enjoy. Very nice setters tabs too! To be honest I have nothing to complain about except the tabulator on this particular machine is sort of broken I think. When pushing down the tab key a lever engages with the main spring and doesn't allow it to hop to the set tabs. The only which happens is the draw band on the main spring fall off and gets stuck besides the main spring. Quite sad as this is probably one of my top three typewriters at least. I will try to figure out what the problem comes from. If any body got any idea how to fix it I would love to hear!

Hi my name is Kewin and I'm a 24 years old from Sweden. I have a few hobbies like drawing and playing guitar but I do also like myself some project here and there which is where my interest in typewriters fits in. I have always collected things through my life but I did not expect typewriters to be my next big passion in collecting. I started collecting typewriters in the beginning of 2022 and so far I have 80* of them (3 of which is currently disassembled) . I find it really enjoyable to pickup a typewriter at a thrift store/second hand and starting to clean it up and get it to a working condition to the best of my ability and knowledge. (Excuse all the dog hairs in my pictures, I do actually try to remove the hair before taking the pictures. xD) Cheers!
