1975 IBM Selectric II Serial # 26 1391310 1975 IBM Selectric II typewriter, Serial # 26 1391310 Clark Hinson's 1975 IBM Selectric II typewriter. 2018-01-01 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Clark Hinson: 1975 IBM Selectric II Serial # 26 1391310 This is now a very nice Emerald Green 13" Selectric II with Correction that I resurrected. I bought this off Craigslist from a CPA firm who was cleaning out their storage room. It needed a full overhaul as it had been heavily used before it was put into storage. I did a complete overhaul on it, replacing all the clutches and operation cams, cam followers, cleaning and re-lubing it, etc. It is now a real joy to type on. The case is in really nice shape so I hate to paint it as only a couple of the sharp corners are showing through. I still need to install new noise-reducing foam and install the dust shields over the shafts. I have a brand-new cover that is color-matched for this machine as you can see in the pictures. This machine was put into service on February 2, 1975 according to the IBM sticker on the bottom. It was manufactured in Austin, Texas.

I love mechanical things and have tinkered with manual and electric typewriters since my teens. I have always been fascinated by the IBM Selectric, but it was later in life that I finally got my hands on one to explore. I learned to repair/restore them and suddenly I have several of them. I don't really consider myself a collector, but rather a restorer. I enjoy bringing old machines back to usable condition and then pass them on to other people to use and enjoy.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Selectric II on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Selectric II By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
