Description:
A nice Canadian made Galaxie 12. Very clean, but it was missing it's RS carriage cover and there was no blue one in the parts bins, so a greenish something will do for now. And the dreaded cork drop, but I've got a well worn system for that S-C killer.
So how do these common S-C machines type? Well on my testing scale it is as follows.
6.5/10 typing (for ref a tuned 5 is an 8, and a SM-9 is a 9 and no manual portable scores a 10)
4.5/5 controls (the plastic carriage release levers ))-:
3/3 service (best in class from the ribbon system to the escape)
2/3 fit and finish (too much plastic for a 3)
3/3 case
3/3 style
22/27 B- or pretty good for something you could walk into K-Mart and find.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Galaxie Twelve on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Galaxie Twelve By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
