Description:
One Smith-Corona Corsair Deluxe typewriter with Elite typeface (12 CPI, 6 LPI). This one in Turquoise or Teal, depending on your idea of that color. This was made apparently as a compromise between the earlier 5 series larger portables and the slim portables, such as the skywriters, to do heavier work than the latter but be more space and weight friendly than the former. The series was introduced in 1964 and this unit was made in 1974, and apparently first purchased in 1976, based on the receipt that still accompanies the typewriter. I will say that I do not find it the best unit to type on, especially with the platen being relatively hard for the age--it seems like this must have been shipped wi5th a softer than average platen--but it still does its job. Just don't expect it to produce office quality work. The "Error Control" mark on the spacebar simply indicates that this is a half-space unit. That is, depressing the spacebar and holding it advances one half-space and releasing it advances a second half-space. Useful for squeezing two characters into the space of one where one was left-out and erasure necessary. It also allows for overlapping characters needed in some languages. (Such as ae and oe.)

Collector of several things, including typewriters, slide rules, and mechanical calculators.
Started collecting typewriters in 2023 with a Royal HHE like the one I did my first book report on when I was in school and using my dad's old typewriter.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
