Description:
The Underwood 450 and the Olivetti Studio 45 seem identical in every respect except for the design of the typebars cover, the platen knobs, and the color scheme. The turquoise Studio 45 is what we often see. I will have to agree with Will Davis, Underwood 450 gets higher marks for looks. Like the Valentine, the Underwood 450/Studio 45 bears the creative fingerprints of noted Italian designer Ettore Sottsass. It's such a solid typer, I almost forgot that it's made of plastic. Made in Barcelona, Spain.

In a parallel universe, I was once the Senior Vice-President of Design (Typewriter Division) at Ing. C. Olivetti & C.,S.p.A., Ivrea, Italy. In the real universe, I'm a Chicago-based casual collector and hunter of Olivetti typewriters, and related ephemera, publications, and film sightings.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 450 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 450 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
