Description:
Snappy and stable like most Olivetti typewriters, the Montgomery Ward Escort 55 is a success story of aesthetics and engineering. The latter is due to the fact that it's actually a Lettera 32 with a new plastic body. Unlike other plastic typewriters, the Escort 55 is not rattly at all; it's a surprisingly solid typer. What's more, it's got sleek mod lines matched by a fetching yellow color. The case is a design statement in itself.
This one's a keeper, I had it since August 2012.

In a parallel universe, I was once the Senior Vice-President of Design (Typewriter Division) at Ing. C. Olivetti & C.,S.p.A., Ivrea, Italy. In the real universe, I'm a Chicago-based casual collector and hunter of Olivetti typewriters, and related ephemera, publications, and film sightings.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Montgomery Ward (Olivetti) Escort 55 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Montgomery Ward (Olivetti) Serial Number page and the Montgomery Ward (Olivetti) Escort 55 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
