Description:
Now functional after degumming, cleaning and lubricating. Was once a teaching typewriter as indicated by the number on the top (54, in magic marker) and that most of the keys had been painted over. When I came across it many of those keys had had the paint scratched mostly off, leaving scratches on many keytops. I replaced the worst ones and cleaned up most of the rest. I left a few traces as a reminder of its history. Found in the north Kansas City/Independence, Missouri area. Functioned beautifully.

Agricultural economist resident in the Kansas City area who enjoys interesting typewriters of all kinds. Still trying to figure out how to revive old Selectrics . . .
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Selectric I on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Selectric I By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
