Description:
Nickname: Helen
I am changing my rule~from no machines after 1969 to no machines after 1975, we will see how far that gets me. Helen is, as many are, named after its lifetime owner. Helen R. purchased her Facit typewriter new on August 15, 1974 at Hutchinson Business Machine on University Avenue in San Diego, Helen's hometown and mine. She cared for her typewriter for 40 years until her passing May 2014 at the age of 95. Her case still includes the original purchase receipt and warranty card. Both documents indicate that the model is "1622" even though the ribbon cover is adorn with "1620" so I assume 1622 is a sub-model along the lines of Royal "HHP" and "HHE." I will do a little more research on the model number as that is clearly not a mistake. The form and color scheme scream 1970's, beige body and brown keys, very handsome for its time. Helen is a cursive machine and the action is smooth and enjoyable. The rail carriage is butter smooth, it glides effortlessly.

Metastatic cancer fighter and sudden cardiac arrest survivor who has gotten into vintage typewriter collecting after realizing that life is short and typewriters are fascinating. My machines range from 1947 to 1973 and I type on all of them and have given each of them a name. Have I mentioned that life is short? I am having great fun with this obsessi- I mean hobby. I live in San Diego, California.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Facit 1622 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Facit Serial Number page and the Facit 1622 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
