Description:
This is a dual language version of the JP1 in that it has both English and Katakana keys or typefaces. I read in one blog that this was used for typing telegrams because the English keys are all in caps. Maybe for telegraphic stations that did not have teleprinters. But Japan has been a very advanced country in terms of technology since the 1960s. So I wonder why they still did not have teleprinters by the time this typewriter was made. Whatever the case, this machine is not only lightweight but also works very smoothly.

I'm an archaeologist who writes heritage books and collects Japanese ceramics as well as quite a number of typewriters that I've acquired through purchase or as gifts over the last 10 years in the Philippines as well as in the US and Japan.
I'm currently a visiting professor at a university in Japan and it is heaven here to see so many typewriters being auctioned online!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Valiant on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Valiant By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
