1973 Adler Tippa Serial # 5554578 1973 Adler Tippa typewriter, Serial # 5554578 Wayne Bouchard's 1973 Adler Tippa typewriter. 2025-01-01 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Wayne Bouchard: 1973 Adler Tippa Serial # 5554578 A late era Adler Tippa. This one from 1973, with the plastic shell and plastic cover in a nice, bright orange! You'll certainly stand out with this typewriter in front of you!
It is equipped with Pica typeface with the type slugs bearing a "6" (10 pitch, 6 LPI) and has a 44 key British keyboard layout.

One of the most interesting things about this typewriter, I think, is that it doesn't use the traditional rack and pinion carriage system. It still has the rack, but the pinion has been replaced by a blade attached to the escapement rocker plate to engage the teeth on the carriage. It works very well and eliminated the need for an additional moving part and simplifies manufacturing. Its one of those things where, when you see it, you slap your forehead and wonder why no one thought of that sooner! It's a nice little typer and quite portable. The only problem with this one is that the spacebar has become slightly distorted such that it bows downward a bit at the middle. No idea how that could have happened without damage to the other keys, but it's there nonetheless.
