1972 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 6MSE 186709 1972 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter, Serial # 6MSE 186709 Chris S's 1972 Smith Corona Sterling typewriter. 2026-10-06 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Chris S: 1972 Smith Corona Sterling Serial # 6MSE 186709 Found at a small medical clinic in its case and covered with dust circa 2019. Originally had doctor's name on red embossed label.
Reattached 2 right-most key levers, blown out, and cleaned up. Platen has been treated with rubber-restorer but is still fairly hard. It will eventually need a proper refurbishing.
On a personal note: Sterling was the name of my beloved pet rabbit at the time and as a child I got to play with a much more drab looking sterling. This machine restarted my fascination with these machines!

Just a regular dad and former 90s kid who got to play with a drab SC Sterling (it felt old even then) as a kid and has rediscovered how much satisfaction these machines can bring.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Sterling on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Sterling By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
