Description:
The Gabriele 35, classed as a 'portable' is larger and heavier than most portables in spite of its plastic casing. It does fit nicely into its carrying case, which is the size of a small suitcase!
I walked past this machine a couple of times as it looks fairly bland, not helped by the plastic casing. However, its internals are sturdy and it types exceptionally well. I beat down the price a little and added it to my collection.
It's really smooth to use and was fairly clean when I got it. I would say that this is one of the best performers in my collection and if I want to bash out a few pages without any drama, then the Gabriele 35 would be my first choice.
The case was in poor condition, having been stored on it's hinge edge and the weight of the typewriter had bowed it. Also, the mock 'snakeskin' covering had separated from the body of the case. However, strapping the case and leaving it out in the very hot sun corrected the distortion and pricking the covering with a pin and smoothing it down got rid of the big air bubble under it. A bit of boot polish and the case looks pretty good.
I had a heck of a job finding the serial number, even though I'd read it was under the carriage on the left-hand side. I only noticed the number when I looked closely at the photo I'd taken for this database entry!
So, in summary, not an exciting machine to look at and I doubt it's ever going to be a 'collectable', but it's a good performer.

Retired Air Traffic Controller. Got my first typewriter from Santa when I was about 8 years old and woke my parents up at 3am as I just had to try it out when I woke up! Have had an old Imperial 58 in the family for longer than I can remember. A computer geek, but I just love the mechanics of typewriters and have started to collect a few more to keep the Imperial company!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Adler Gabriele 35 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Adler Serial Number page and the Adler Gabriele 35 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
