Description:
This is a recent Goodwill find; in its case, it was with the luggage (pro Goodwill tip--look there). It's my most recently made and only Japanese-made machine. It's tinny and light, but types sprightly. It has the wrong ribbon, but is otherwise very clean. I was unable to locate the serial anywhere--I'm assuming it's listed under something not so obvious to a relative newcomer like me, but perhaps someone has insight?

I started collecting typewriters in 1996 when my employer at an old newsstand in Kalamazoo, MI gave me her mother's Underwood Elliot Fisher Noiseless; I love these machines and learning how to repair and maintain them. The Noiseless was the medium for a zine I wrote through the nineties and into the oughts, and my nine-year-old daughter now types regularly.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal (Silver-Seiko) Mercury on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal (Silver-Seiko) Serial Number page and the Royal (Silver-Seiko) Mercury By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
