Description:
Oddly, there is nothing to identify the maker of this typewriter, except that to the expert it's clear that it uses the same basic mechanism that Royal used for many decades on its standard machines. Possibly the front of the ribbon cover was painted over, but if so, the paint is a very good match for the original.
The model number is indicated only as the first part of the serial number (which is stamped on the left side of the interior body of the typewriter).
Interestingly, 1971 is considerably earlier than the date provided by NOMDA, which claims that the "Model 470 [was] introduced on Royal's 70th Anniversary" in 1974.
Elite type.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal 470 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal 470 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
