Description:
Came splashed with some sort of white paint. The droplets are too widespread (including in the case) to be just a Liquid Paper (Wite-Out) spill. I think it was in a room, uncovered, at a time when the room got repainted or re-drywalled.
A bit of alcohol took off the white spots from the platen and paper rollers. Note the accent over the "A" key. That's not an accent but a chip in the plastic key. Or its a paint droplet that I haven't been able to clean off just yet.
Types with a balanced touch. I still "throw" my fingertips into the keys, a technique I'm learning to do that using a computer keyboard never taught me. But the keys seem to catch the inertia of my throw, finish the stroke, and bounce back perfectly. I can't out-type this machine. No jams unless I hit two keys simultaneously.
Typeface is "Senatorial" at 11 CPI. The typeface and the wide carriage are the reasons I bought this particular SM9.

Rank amateur. Have one machine and hoping to not buy any more. We'll see how that works out for me...
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM9 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM9 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
