1971 Adler Special Serial # 2511475 1971 Adler Special typewriter, Serial # 2511475 Erwin vanD's 1971 Adler Special typewriter. 2025-03-27 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Erwin vanD: 1971 Adler Special Serial # 2511475 This Adler Special caught my eye because of one key.
Looking around on the interweb comparing Adler/Triumph machines I came across this machine for sale and noticed something different on the somewhat blurry picture.
Decided to make an offer, got accepted and went by to collect the machine.
When the deal was closed, I asked if she knew something about the machine and she answered that it was her fathers typewriter and she still remembered how he was frantically typing away on this machine. He was a Dermatologist in Rotterdam and ordered this machine customised with the Male/Female sign. You can see that the key is slightly different in size and color. Itā€™s clear that he took good care of his machine, there is a note inside with the private address of an office supplier owner with the remark
ā€œHe knows this machine very wellā€. When I started using the machine after decades of silence Iā€™ve noticed that, although being slightly sticky sometimes, it went remarkably well.
Amazingly enough the ribbon was still workable after rewinding to the other spool.
Same goes for the platen, almost as new. Although Iā€™m not a fan of non-portable machines, I will make an exception for this one. Itā€™s heavy, itā€™s solid and precise.

Hello,
Typerwriterfan from the Netherlands, recently bought a few typewriters again and started cleaning and adjusting them.
I haven't touched a typewriter in a long time, but it's fun working with them again.
This is a great database and I will try to contribute too.

Have a nice day,

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Adler Special on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Adler Serial Number page and the Adler Special By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
