1970 Sears Chevron Serial # 6217153 1970 Sears Chevron typewriter, Serial # 6217153 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1970 Sears Chevron typewriter. 2018-03-06 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1970 Sears Chevron Serial # 6217153 Sean acquired this typewriter, and gave it to me, knowing that I enjoy 1950's/1960's/1970's lap-size portables, and thought that this weird bird might provide some interesting variety. And he was right. This Sears product really is a Litton product, who had acquired the rights of Royal and Imperial in the 1960's, and it was sold under various brands and models. Such names were Malibu, Newport, as well as the ABC 2000, to name a few. There were various size-equivalents, countless color-schemes, and even a Brother version named the XL1010.

I very much enjoy using this typewriter, despite it's clunky feel and hardened platen. I will have to tend to that rather sooner than later as the page tends to slide through the machine. But as I have not cleaned this machine as of today (March 6th 2018) that might be resolved somewhat in the near future.

The typewriter is of a bulky nature, and it's body is rather unnecessarily big. At least in no way necessary for the mechanism that makes the machine, as it is made of surprisingly few components. However, the cover is metal, and adds quite some weight, although the body is made of high-grade plastic. The bottom panels is manufactured from some type of hard vinyl, which I have not come across before. Mechanically, there is a variety of brands that come to mind which are included in the mechanism. All in all, for the value this typewriter is not a bad typewriter. At least a solid Sears product.

The machine was found with the original paper-work as well as the cover, which sadly has suffered a fracture which I will tend to. Other than that, the machine seemingly is virtually damage free. An excellent specimen.
