Description:
My Grandmother got this from a friend of hers while cleaning out their basement.
Itâs in very good shape overall didnât need much apart from a fresh ribbon and some oil on the carriage rails and bearings.
It seems much quieter than some of the Smith Corona electrics I have owned over the years, though the motor is much louder on this typewriter.
If you come across one of these and the motor does not run right away, try the âclear leverâ underneath to clear the key actuators which may have gotten pressed when the machine was without power. When I first switched the 611 on, all of the keys tried to move at the same time and I manually tripped each key. I didnât learn about the clear lever until later.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington (Brother) 611 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington (Brother) Serial Number page and the Remington (Brother) 611 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
