Description:

An Olympia SM8, white top with a grey bottom. Made 1970. Came with a black case with a molded form fitting plastic insert.
Acquired 2024. Cleaned and refurbished and fully functional.

Note that there is no touch control on the left of the keyboard. This is part of what differentiates an SM8 from an SM9

Another differentiator between the SM8 and SM9 are the manually set tab stops behind the machine. So you will also notice that there is no tab set/clear on the keyboard.

Note the flip-up top. Remove the two circlips and four screws inside the feet and the entire typewriter comes out of the case for service and cleaning.

Type face designates style 87 (Which is an Elite typeface) and 6.6 mm shift. The rest of the marks were placed there by the foundry.

Notice the plastic insert in the bottom of the case. This is form fitting to the typewriter. It is secured by a simple friction fit. The downside of this is that it can wear the typewriter. Note the back of the insert where it has abraded the back plate of the typewriter.
