Description:
This was my first encounter with a Brother whose top shell lifts off (including the ribbon cover, the area surrounding the keyboard, and the sides). This shell is metal while the underlying base is plastic.
Overall, this design continues Brother's high-quality manufacturing and good features, such as tabulator (with fixed tab stops) and touch control. It types neatly and cleanly.
There are many different Brother "Echelon" models, including several in this size and with this body design. I haven't worked out all the variations and how they differ.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Echelon 77 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Echelon 77 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
