Description:
Bought this gargantuan desktop Underwood Touchmaster 5 on eBay -- another lucky try with shipping. Arrived in perfect condition.
I bought this because it is the exact make and model of typewriter we used in my 9th grade typing class (which was around 1975). It's fun to get those same tactile memories from my teen years back when I use this big bad boy.

Humorist. Novelist. Scapegoat.
I'm happy to own 17 typewriters currently. Two are models from my childhood: a Royal Signet portable (my first typewriter when I was about 10), and an Underwood TM-5 (used in 9th grade typing class circa 1975).
I used my IBM Selectric II to win NaNoWriMo every year till it mysteriously bit the dust early in 2020. I use my Selectric I a lot since it fits perfectly on my antique typewriter desk. Some of the manuals are currently being used to type letters to new penpals who are all interested in reviving snail-mail letter writing.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Touchmaster Five on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Touchmaster Five By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
