Description:
Usually when you're going through cases and boxes at a thrift store, you don't get your hopes up; nine times out of ten, they're empty, and if they do have something in them it's usually not what goes in the case. So when I opened up a Smith Corona carrying case and found this beautiful Galaxie Deluxe inside in nearly pristine condition, the grin just about split my face in half. And all they wanted was $25.
These Galaxie Deluxes are beautiful pieces of mid century modern - aka "googie" - design, with sweeping curves and flow lines and the iconic late 60's color palette. The thing just *screams* "Moon Landing Era", and as a space exploration geek, I absolutely love it. It calls back to an era where, despite wars and chaos and strife, we still found it in our soul to dare mighty things.
They also type beautifully too. Crisp, smooth. When you hit the sync point where your thought process is moving at the same pace as the rythym of the typewriter, it feels a lot like playing a musical instrument.
I am leaving the McGrath Office Equipment labels on the case and typewriter. They're party of the history to me - and McGrath is still in business! They're a subsidiary these days, but like this typewriter, they're still chugging along.

Somewhere deep in the northwestern Cascade Mountains, deep in the back behind 3D printers, computer parts, vintage airplane artifacts, thousands of books, and some potentially sentient blackberry vines, is a person who has been accused of bearing a suspicious resemblance to Sasquatch but has not yet found precisely who leaked that information.
I did not start collecting typewriters. It just happened. I'm told this is normal, and possibly the result of exposure to typewriter ink. I have promised the smarter half of my marriage that I am not going to get any more typewriters; we're out of room in the house.
...on second thought, I don't really NEED to sleep LYING DOWN, now, do I? That seems like a profligate waste of space...
