196X Smith Corona Electra 220 Automatic Serial # 6ELE-138717 196X Smith Corona Electra 220 Automatic typewriter, Serial # 6ELE-138717 Ian Brumfield's 196X Smith Corona Electra 220 Automatic typewriter. 2015-05-22 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Ian Brumfield: 196X Smith Corona Electra 220 Automatic Serial # 6ELE-138717 I was gifted this machine from a kind elderly lady who had contacted me out of nowhere asking if I was interested in an "old L.C. Smith portable." I understandably thought that this machine would be of a greater vintage than the sixties - but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. She used this machine in high school. Her family moved across country and flew the typewriter to its destination - and when her son took the machine to Desert Storm, this machine flew there and back as well! For all of this air travel, the machine is in great condition. It has unusual carriage release levers and a strange line advance mechanism. Other than that, this dirty machine is pretty normal.

I've been hunting for typewriters since 2012, but I've loved them for long before that... about 2003. In the short amount of time in which I've started seriously collecting I've amassed a collection of over 65 machines (now specializing in Royals), one of which is parts. At the ripe old age of 20, to boot!

In November of 2013 I participated in National Novel Writing Month and hit a pretty decent 105,991 words; all written on manual machines. I think that this is a new record, but there isn't any official record keeping in the Typewriter Brigade.
