Description:
Got this at a yard sale. It’s another nice Smith Corona electric and this one has their script typeface. The case is interesting, too, in that it is a dark gray woven fiberglas that is a dead ringer for today’s carbon fiber material; together with the very wide band of aluminum, it is a striking case.
Interesting facts about these Smith-Corona script machines: (1) they only use a single color ribbon and the ribbon color selector enforces that by offering only two setting: ink or stencil, and (2) they have four lines per inch line spacing instead of the usual six. Both of these features are to allow room for the funky descenders on some upper case letters. It sure makes for an airy page. OTOH, this one has elite pitch so that kinda makes up for it.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Coronet on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Coronet By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
