A few months later, my aunt contacted me. She said that her church was having a rummage sale, and that there was a Smith-Corona electric portable typewriter for sale. She tested it and it worked, and asked me if I was interested in it. I asked her how much they were selling it for, then answered "yes" the split second she finished saying, "seven dollars and fifty cents." Included was the case.

I purchased a new ribbon for it. Many of my naysayers laugh at me when I tell them the ribbon cost more than the typewriter. ($9.95 for the ribbon).

I have been using this typewriter somewhat regularly. I'm finding that occasionally when I hit the return key, it jumps down two lines while I'm single-spacing. Also, once or twice every sheet of paper I run through it, it shuts off when I hit Return. I pick up the machine, give it a little shake, and it powers back on, completing the return.
