Description:
I submit this machine because it has a story. It was in poor shape with intense nicotine staining and a bad smell. I scrubbed it and it's now a very good typer. When I received it, it had this rather poignant letter in it. I like to use this typewriter, thinking it may retain some spirit from the previous owner who I hope found peace.
This is a transitional SCM, with a somewhat flat ribbon cover front, though not as flat and recessed as later models with an attached name plate. This has SCM Smith-Corona printed on the upper left which must have been a cost-saving measure. Comparing to other classics in the database I would say these are early 60s.

Get to work!
I am a retired graphic artist and I began collecting typewriters in 2021. I like machines from the 50s and 60s. Other interests include music, film making, fly fishing and tinkering with classic VWs.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Classic on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Classic By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
