Description:
This is one with an odd serial number, but it seems to indicate a 1968 or 1969 machine made in Barcelona. I bought this on Facebook Marketplace and unfortunately didn't notice that the "1" key was missing. I think because so many vintage typewriters don't have a "1" key, it didn't jump out at me in the photos. In addition, the "N" key is still very tight even after cleaning. So it will need a little work, but I have experienced fully serviced models of the Lettera 33 that are a dream to type on, so I have hope for this one. The cool thing is that it came with the original silver case, manual, plastic dust cover, and some 29-cent onion skin paper.

I am a librarian, artist, writer, and co-author of the book Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries (The History Press, 2023). If I'm working on a book or article for publication, I'm on a computer. However, I use my typewriters to create poems, type-doodles, art, and to write snail mail letters. I find the tactile nature of typing on a manual machine soothing and joyful. Each vintage typewriter has a soul and a story. Currently my collection is centered around midcentury models.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti Lettera 33 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti Lettera 33 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
