1969 Orbis Orbis Serial # 5-1820441 1969 Orbis Orbis typewriter, Serial # 5-1820441 Kewin Sanfridsson's 1969 Orbis Orbis typewriter. 2024-10-14 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kewin Sanfridsson: 1969 Orbis Orbis Serial # 5-1820441 I actually have quite a lot to say about the Orbis even though I uploaded a SF yesterday which is the same typewriter and with that comes also all the extra chrome and functionalities. This also means the rubber band feel while typing is still present on the Orbis and less so than the Splendid 33 but still existent.
The first Orbis I acquired had two small holes on the left side of the ribbon hood which confused me a lot while doing my search on what the model of typewriter I had acquired into my possession. Then I saw a picture of a Orbis having infinity symbol/badge at the same place as the holes were located on my Orbis and the badge matched the sticker which was on the left side case as well which I accidentally scrubbed of. So that's where my journey of trying to recreate the symbol for both a new badge to get 3D printed and template to spray on the case. The last picture show my result of trying to recreate it, it is pretty accurate to my knowledge. I hope it can help somebody who needs it, I myself will apply it to that Orbis when I figure out how to create a template.

But back to this machine. It grabs the paper wonderfully and align it well like all Olympias I have tried. The keyboard is a bit lack luster compared to my other Orbis which got at least green shift keys. Otherwise I like these SF/Splendid range of typewriters from Olympia because they reminds me of a mushroom with the blobby ribbon hood and they are such a small footprint, after all they are ultra portables if I'm not mistaken. But at the same time they feel very sturdy a solid machine. I just wish that the Olympia/Orbis logo was a bit more resistant maybe made out of metal because it can easily be broken off if it is caught by something, and they are not the easiest to re-glue. I do also like the longer carriage lever on these Splendid 66-99/SF range of machines compared to the shorter one the Splendid 33 got. Though I yet to see a Orbis with a leather case (like my recently uploaded SF) instead of the slanted or rounded ones that my Orbis typewriters got.

Well that's my thought on the Orbis typewriter of this newer model compared to the older ones from the 40s already here on TWDB.

Cheers!

Hi my name is Kewin and I'm a 24 years old from Sweden. I have a few hobbies like drawing and playing guitar but I do also like myself some project here and there which is where my interest in typewriters fits in. I have always collected things through my life but I did not expect typewriters to be my next big passion in collecting. I started collecting typewriters in the beginning of 2022 and so far I have 75 of them (3 of which is currently disassembled) . I find it really enjoyable to pickup a typewriter at a thrift store/second hand and starting to clean it up and get it to a working condition to the best of my ability and knowledge. (Excuse all the dog hairs in my pictures, I do actually try to remove the hair before taking the pictures. xD) Cheers!
