Description:
Picked this up at a local thrift store for $25. Was extremely dirty with lots of sticking type bars. After a good deep clean, it types beautifully with the signature Olympia smoothness. I believe someone painted this as I have never seen an SM9 in this color. If they did, it was a great paint job because it looks great. This is now the third Olympia in my collection.

I grew up with a fascination and deep appreciation for mechanical business machines. Mid-century typewriters, cash registers and adding machines. To appreciate the magic of these devices and the synergy of gears, springs and levers working together in perfect harmony is quite beautiful and an understated marvel of engineering and quality workmanship that has produced products that work exactly as intended for decades and even a century after they were produced. This is something that doesnât exist in todayâs world. My small collection (currently 19) consists of mainly portables, ultra-portables and a few Smith Corona 6 series electrics, which I use for amateur writing projects.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM9 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM9 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
