1969 Olympia Monica Serial # 3857431 1969 Olympia Monica typewriter, Serial # 3857431 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1969 Olympia Monica typewriter. 2022-09-02 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1969 Olympia Monica Serial # 3857431 I can't ask for more. This typewriter is a donation, as many others from my village´s neighbours who know about my diseas- I mean, my hobby. Big thanks Enrique!

The Olympia Monica is, at least in theory, the less mind blowing version of the SM series. But theory usually goes out of the window when reality kicks in. This is a superb typewriter. No tabulator, less chromed details, the same quality. In this case the machine has been always kept in its case, but as far as my experience goes Olympias endure everything. This one types as new, even more than half a century after being manufactured. Being an Olympia this means you get the best of the best. In addition, this unit fits exactly between my other 2 Monicas: It has the newer shell and the old logo. The elite typeface is an extra, too. Could I ask for more? Nope.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia Monica on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia Monica By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
