1969 Hermes Rocket Serial # 9166889 1969 Hermes Rocket typewriter, Serial # 9166889 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1969 Hermes Rocket typewriter. 2018-03-06 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1969 Hermes Rocket Serial # 9166889 I drove an hour to get this typewriter because I have never had the opportunity before to own a script Hermes in such a funky colour as this. This portable really spoke to me. Such an unusual colour, and disregarding it's plastic body, is truly a machine I enoy. The mechanism appears to be very similar to Litton's Silver-Seiko typewriters, which were commonly branded as Royals or Imperials as Litton acquired that brand. The typewriter still features actual Hermes keys, which were eliminated a few years after. But it surprisingly still feels similar to early Hermes typewriters, although their mechanisms are somewhat different.
This typewriter is in very good shape. There is very little to no wear on this machine. The plastic is not warped or badly aged. Of course you have to be careful with plastic of this vintage, but I therefor treat it with respect, as I would recommend anyone does with one of these typewriters.
A very nice feature that I like about this typewriter is that is in Italic, (Script actually) and that really ads a very nice touch to this typewriter. The font is beautiful, and still in very good shape, again, because the typewriter probably received very little service in it's time. The nice long carriage return leaver is another indicator it is related to Silver-Seiko, and is a feature I really like, as I have always had preference for long carriage-return leavers.
