1969 Consul 232 Serial # 9232545088 1969 Consul 232 typewriter, Serial # 9232545088 Suzanne LaPierre's 1969 Consul 232 typewriter. 2026-06-27 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Suzanne LaPierre: 1969 Consul 232 Serial # 9232545088 This machine has a wonderful come-back story. It was listed as one of the free parts machines when Richard Polt downsized his collection earlier in 2026. He described it as "looks nice but has major problems." Mary Echevarria of My Old Typewriter blog claimed it. She had a similar machine and thought she may be able to fix it using her own Consul 232 as a reference. Mary generously offered to give it to me if she could get it working again. And the rest is history, as detailed in Mary's blog post: https://myoldtypewriter.com/2026/05/29/sister-ship-consul-232/

Despite is ice cream colors, this ultraportable is solid metal and has a sturdy, snappy feel to it. Plus, you have to dig the curvy MCM vibe. It's like the VW Bug of typewriters. I am very pleased add this to my collection, which also includes a 221 Consul in Russian Cyrillic.

I am a librarian, artist, writer, and co-author of the book Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries (The History Press, 2023). If I'm working on a book or article for publication, I'm on a computer. However, I use my typewriters to create poems, type-doodles, and to write snail mail letters. The tactile nature of typing on a manual machine works some kind of detox magic in this digital age. Each vintage typewriter has a soul and a story. Currently my collection is centered around midcentury models.
